The Northern Way starts in Irún and follows the Cantabrian coast through the Basque Country, Cantabria and Asturias before entering Galicia. About 820 km, with more climbing than the French Way and fewer crowds.
It was one of the oldest medieval routes, used when the interior was unsafe. It is recognised by UNESCO as World Heritage (Routes of Northern Spain, 2015). It joins the French Way near Arzúa.

Every Camino

Each route is different, but the goal is the same. Finca Anduriñas is a donation-based rest stop on the final stretch of the routes that pass through Anduriñas (Sanabrés, Via de la Plata, Winter Way and Mozarab), at Km 24.448 in A Estrada.

How long is the Northern Way?
From Irún to Santiago it is about 820 km, usually in 32–35 stages. It is more demanding due to constant climbs.
Is it harder than the French Way?
It is generally considered tougher because of the coastal ups and downs, though the views of the Cantabrian Sea make up for it.
Does the Northern Way pass through A Estrada?
No. It enters Galicia via Ribadeo and joins the French Way near Arzúa. Finca Anduriñas is on the routes that pass through Anduriñas that reach Santiago via Km 24.448.
